Market Context

Tanzania’s Growing Import Demand

Tanzania is one of the largest and fastest-growing destinations in our export data, with real, broad-based growth across seven product lines tied to three concrete demand drivers — gold mining, detergent manufacturing and textile recovery.

Trade data: India’s export-commodity data (DGCIS/EIDB) shows Sodium Sulphate as our single largest volume line into Tanzania — 36.76 million kg in the most recent fiscal year, up 31% in quantity and 33% in value to $2.74 million. Hydrogen Peroxide has grown fastest, up 495% in quantity to 2.47 million kg ($0.82 million, up 399% in value). Hydrochloric Acid is up 39% in quantity to 5.76 million kg ($0.65 million), and Caustic Soda Flakes up sharply in percentage terms to 634,600 kg ($0.36 million). Soda Ash Light remains our largest legacy volume at 8.67 million kg, though its value has softened slightly alongside global soda ash pricing.

Three sectors plausibly explain this growth. Tanzania’s gold-mining industry produced a record 60 tonnes of gold in 2024 and gold export earnings hit a record $4.7 billion in 2025 — nearly half of total goods exports — and gold processing plants at sites like Bulyanhulu, North Mara and Geita consume caustic soda for cyanide-leach pH control and hydrochloric acid for carbon and resin regeneration. Tanzania’s soap and detergent manufacturing sector, anchored by large producers in Dar es Salaam, is projected to grow at roughly 6.6% annually through 2032, driving demand for sodium sulphate as a detergent filler and soda ash as a builder. And a recovering cotton and textile sector — seed-cotton output rose nearly 48% in the most recent season — is a plausible driver of rising hydrogen peroxide demand for bleaching and scouring.

Chemicals We Supply to Tanzania

Tanzania’s chemical demand spans three distinct sectors: gold-mining chemical processing around Geita, Bulyanhulu and North Mara; soap and detergent manufacturing concentrated in Dar es Salaam; and textile bleaching tied to the country’s recovering cotton sector, alongside municipal and mining water treatment. Sodium sulphate is our largest volume line, hydrogen peroxide our fastest-growing, and caustic soda flakes and hydrochloric acid track closely with mining-sector demand. Every shipment carries a third-party Certificate of Analysis and documentation prepared for Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) PVoC clearance at Dar es Salaam.
